Hull FC duo Ellis and Houghton guided the club to top of the table during the regular season, and they remain in contention to finish the Super 8s at the summit and lift the League Leaders' Shield.

Skipper Ellis has led the side with distinction throughout the campaign - which has included a Challenge Cup triumph - while Houghton is Hull's top tackler with 1,244 - 500 more than any of his team-mates.

The pair are joined in contention for the award by Castleford Tigers' flying winger Solomona, the top try scorer in Super League.

His 37 scores broke Lesley Vainikolo's 12-year try-scoring record in the competition, marking a momentous second season at the Jungle.

However, Solomona's heroics have not been able to secure the Tigers a top-four place.

The award will be chosen by a poll of every Super League player, with the winner to be announced on October 3.
