The Black Stars vice-captain was named in a three-man shortlist alongside Ivory Coast and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and Gabon and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang emerged as the winner of the 2015 African Player of the Year award at an event in Abuja.

In an interview with Accra-based Peace FM, Sammy Kuffour said of Andre Ayew’s missed chance:

“You know Andre is like my son. He did very well in the year but Swansea's recent performances affected his chances. “You know when your team is not doing well, naturally it reduces your proficiency. If your winning, your performances go up and if things are not working it drops. Honestly Swansea form derailed him big time.“But he is young and has the future ahead of him. The future belongs to him. He needs to concentrate and keep working hard.”

Andre Ayew has congratulated winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and is determined to work hard and make his fans proud.
