However, a statement signed by the EC’s acting director of Public Affairs Christian Owusu-Parry said “The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public and the media that the panel is yet to complete its work and no report has been submitted to the Commission."“The public is therefore entreated to disregard the reports circulating in the media,” the statement added.

The statement said “The Commission wishes to assure the public that they will be informed of the recommendations of the panel and the final decision taken by the Commission on the register as soon as the requisite processes are concluded.”

A five-member panel set up by the Electoral Commission in late October, conducted a two-day public hearing over demands for a new voters' register.

Political parties and civil society groups which have sent proposals to the EC over the demand for a new register appeared before the panel to justify their positions.Others against the call for a new register also made their case as to why the current register must be maintained.
