Reyes suspend through the end of May

The unpaid suspension is retroactive to February 23, 2016 when Reyes was placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation involving the alleged beating of his wife on October 31 in Hawaii.

Reyes - a four-time All-Star, National League (NL) batting champion and Silver Slugger award winner - was not charged with a crime.

"Mr. Reyes cooperated fully with my office’s investigation," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.

"I am encouraged by Mr. Reyes' commitment to the treatment provisions of the policy in order to ensure that such an incident does not occur in the future. Mr. Reyes also agreed to contribute a total of $100,000 to one or more charitable organizations focused on preventing and treating survivors of domestic violence."

Reyes has agreed not to appeal the discipline. The suspension will cover a total of 51 games.

Reyes is eligible to return on June 1 in a home game against the Cincinnati Reds.

"I want to apologize for everything that has happened. I am sorry to the Rockies organization, my team-mates, all the fans and mostly my family," Reyes said in a statement.

"I am happy to put this all in the past and get back to doing what I love the most, playing baseball.

"My wife Katherine has remained by my side throughout everything and for that I will be forever grateful."
