RFL fines Wakefield Trinity Wildcats for racist chants

The RFL has taken a strong stance against racist chanting from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats fans, sanctioning the club with a hefty fine.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been hit with a £20,000 fine after an RFL tribunal found a group of supporters engaged in racist chanting in a fixture against Bradford Bulls last season.

The RFL launched a probe following the Wildcats 48-18 victory over the Bulls in round two of the Super 8s Qualifiers at Belle Vue in August.

It was found that the Wildcats had breached the RFL's Operational Rules and as such the club have been heavily sanctioned.

An RFL statement said that £10,000 is to be suspended until the end of the 2016 season, but the amount will have to be paid if they are guilty of a similar charge in that time.

However, a £1,000 suspended fine for a separate incident of misconduct involving spectators must now be paid.
