WADA recommends Kenya be deemed non-compliant

Kenyan athletes are at risk of missing the Rio Olympic Games after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) compliance review committee unanimously recommended the African nation be declared non-compliant.

Kenya missed two deadlines imposed by WADA to prove it had satisfied requirements to prove it is tackling doping.

It was hoped that a new anti-doping law passed by president Uhuru Kenyatta would end any fears that Kenyan athletes may be prevented in competing in Brazil.

But those concerns were heightened when it was confirmed after a WADA board meeting on Thursday that the new legislation is inadequate.

"The WADA CRC [Compliance Review Committee] has made the unanimous recommendation that Kenya be declared non-compliant with immediate effect," WADA posted on its official Twitter account.

"The CRC cites issues with Kenya's legislation which it says is not in line with the World Anti-Doping Code."
