Sean O'Brien missed training on Wednesday but the flanker is expected to be fit for Ireland's Six Nations opener against Wales on Sunday.

The inspirational Leinster back-row has been hampered by a tight hamstring ahead of the defending champions' mouth-watering encounter with Warren Gatland's side at the Aviva Stadium.

O'Brien's fitness is not a major concern for Ireland, though, and Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt will be counting on the 28-year-old to recover in time after losing wing Luke Fitzgerald to a knee injury this week.

Fitzgerald was ruled out for the entire tournament after sustaining knee ligament damage in training.

Garry Ringrose trained with the Ireland squad on Wednesday, but the young Leinster centre has not been named as a replacement for Fitzgerald in the squad.
