Six Nations: Machenaud frustrated by France

After their 19-10 defeat to Wales, scrum-half Maxime Mechenaud says France have lessons to learn if they want to compete for the Six Nations title.

France went into Friday's clash at Principality Stadium with two wins from their opening two matches, but they had been unconvincing against Italy and Ireland.

Wales were much the better team in Cardiff and secured victory thanks to the boot of Dan Biggar and a try from the rejuvenated George North.

Machenaud thought France had competed well with Warren Gatland's side, but acknowledged too many errors crept into their game.

"It is not enough to be brave, unfortunately," he told the official Six Nations website. "I think we put in a lot of good work, above all defensively, we really threw ourselves into that side of things.

"But we did not hold onto the ball enough, we conceded a try in the second half that really hurt us.

"There are some positives but we have to keep working. We know we have room for improvement but it is frustrating because we put them under pressure two or three times in the second half without getting the score.

"I really feel that we can do a lot better."
