Uber and Goodwill lead donations via mobile campaign
Uber led Goodwill donations on May 2, 2015 by offering consumers a chance to download that app and request a free pick-up and delivery of their goods to a local goodwill store.
Consumers interested in donating had their recyclable products delivered to a Goodwill location by an Uber driver free of charge. The initiative was an innovative concept by Uber to show that mobile app companies also have to participate more in corporate social responsibility. The partnership took place in about 50 cities across the US.
“This is the first time Goodwill and Uber have partnered on a full-scale nationwide campaign to combine the power of donating with the convenience of ordering a ride via a mobile device across the nation,” said an Uber spokeswoman in San Fransisco.
The brands encouraged participants in the event to spend the month of April gathering up jackets, blouses, shirts and other clothing pieces. Then on Saturday, donors were able to download or open the Uber app and choose the “GIVE” option which was added solely for the exercise.
Next step was for users to order a regular ride like they would any other day and wait until an Uber vehicle showed up to pick up the bags and drop them off at the Goodwill store.
Goodwill is hoping to use the revenue from the clothing donations to fund job placements and training programs in local communities.
Mobile is indeed an ideal communication for outfits like Uber and Goodwill’s spring cleaning campaign, as many customers have already downloaded the Uber app o their phone all across the US.
