England Test captain Alastair Cook would have no problem with Stuart Broad returning to limited-overs cricket in next year's World Twenty20 in India.

Broad was skipper of the England squad that suffered a group-stage exit in the 2014 World T20 - and the humiliation of losing to Associate nation Netherlands in their final match.

The seamer has not played an international in the shortest format since and has been utilised in Test cricket alone since England's poor performance at the Cricket World Cup earlier this year.

Nevertheless, Broad could yet be called upon to bring experience to a largely youthful T20 squad.

And Cook is quoted by the Daily Express as saying: "As a Test captain you want your best players playing just that format in a very selfish way. But that's not the right thing. Broady has been fantastic for English cricket for a very long time.

"Physically he has looked in fantastic nick recently and he hasn't played much one-day cricket. He would go [to the World T20] with my blessing.

"If you want to go to win global tournaments, you need your best players.

"That's an interesting selection for the selectors, [England director of cricket] Andrew Strauss and [T20 captain] Eoin Morgan. That will be a decision made down the line and you can't look too far ahead."
