Radwanska relieved to get through first round

Polish fourth seed Radwanska braved temperatures of in excess of 35 degrees Celsius in her 6-2 6-3 win over Christina McHale.

Unseeded American McHale loomed as a stern first-round test for the Shenzhen Open winner and reigning WTA Finals champion, but Radwanska was too good in her 80-minute victory.

"The first match is always tough, always tricky, especially with the conditions here every day being so different," said Radwanska, who broke serve seven times throughout the match.

"I'm just very glad I could win that match in two sets."

Radwanska remains unbeaten in 2016, having reigned supreme in Shenzhen earlier this month.

The 2014 Australian Open semi-finalist will now take on Canadian favourite Eugenie Bouchard in the second round.

"I really feel good here in Australia, very comfortable on the court," Radwanska added.

"I love the crowd, I'm really playing my game and enjoying tennis - I think that's the most important thing."
