Talanoa stars as Hull FC thrash Wakefield

Fetuli Talanoa ran in four tries as Hull FC boosted their top-four hopes and ended Wakefield Trinity Wildcats' four-game winning run in Super League.

Hull's 46-28 victory ensures they stay two points behind joint-leaders Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors after 12 games, while Wakefield remain in the bottom four.

After falling 6-0 behind early on, Hull turned on the style with a four-try blitz in the space of 10 minutes to lead 24-6 at the half-hour mark.

However, a thrilling half was far from over as Wakefield drew confidence from their recent run to level the scores by the break - two tries from Ashley Gibson lifting spirits at Belle Vue.

Danny Kirmond gave the hosts the lead four minutes after the restart but Wakefield would not score another point as Hull romped to victory with another four scores - Talanoa completing his hat-trick on 48 minutes before adding a fourth with six to play.

Meanwhile at the bottom, Hull KR completed a good day for the city with only their third win of the campaign in a 58-16 rout of Castleford Tigers.

Thomas Minns scored three of Hull KR's 11 tries at The Jungle to boost their hopes of escaping the bottom four.

A tight first half saw Hull KR enjoy a narrow four-point lead, but they ran riot in the second period with 38 unanswered points - Ben Cockayne kicking four of his seven conversions and a sole penalty.
