The VW is easily one of the most common vehicles anywhere in the entire world.

This new concept however does not look like any of those that you’ve seen and the reasons for that are fairly obvious.

The Golf GTE Sport is a concept car that Volkswagen brought out to the Worthersee, an annual Volkswagen-Audi event held in Austria.

Like Audi’s TT Clubsport, the VW GTE is not messing around. The cars 395 bhp comes from a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that can run for 31 miles on electric alone with 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 174 miles.

The outside looks wild, but things even go a notch higher on the inside. The “motor racing cockpit” basically looks like a sci-fi illustration, and the strange seating seating configuration puts driver and passenger in a carbon fiber-wrapped capsule.

Needless to say, these may not make it to the eventual production car but as a styling exercise, there are some things we may see in production VW’s of the near future.
