Rio 2016 organisers announced on Thursday that Gianeni had been withdrawn from competition at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium due to a positive sample which was taken prior to the Games in Rio.
A short statement released by Games organisers said: "Theodora Gianeni (GRE) has been withdrawn from the women's 50m freestyle at the Olympic Games because of a positive doping control test conducted by her NADO [National Anti-Doping Organisation] before the beginning of the Games."
The women's 50m freestyle takes place over Saturday and Sunday.
