Pepsi have attempted to attract a politically active younger demographic with its latest TV advert.

The two and a half minute advert features a track by Bob Marley's grandson Skip Marley.

The TV ad shows model Kendall Jenner appear to calm a protest by handing a cop a can of Pepsi, sparking obvious comparisons to recent anti-police demonstrations.

It's not clear what the protest is supposed to be about - many of the signs read general phrases like "Join the conversation" and "love."

The commercial is being criticised by people who have interpreted it as a co-opt of the resistance movement whilst featuring a privileged, white, famous young model using a drink sold by a massive conglomerate to create peace between activists and law enforcement.

Pepsi in a statement said: "This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony.

"We think that's an important message to convey."

Reactions ranged from humorous jabs to calls for whoever is responsible for the commercial to be sacked.
