Ghanaian striker Patrick Twumasi put up a standout display when he bagged a brace as Astana edged Celtic 4-3, but they missed out on the group stage of the UEFA Champions 8-4 on aggregate.

Celtic hammered Kazakhstani based club 5-0 in the first leg in Glasgow, Scotland in the first leg playoff, so they advanced despite the second leg slump.

Astana got the opener in the 26th minute through a Kristoffer Vassbakk Ajer own goal but Scott Sinclair drew Celtic level.

Three minutes after the interval, Serikzhan Muzhikov gave the hosts a 2-1 lead and then Twumasi scored a minute after to make it 3-1.

In the 69th minute, Twumasi registered a brace to make it 4-1 when he run on to a flicked-on header on the Astana right and, with no challenge forthcoming, advanced towards goal before beating Gordon at his near post.

Celtic, however, fought from behind and scored two goals through Olivier Ntcham and Leigh Griffiths in the 80 and 90 minutes respectively.
