WADA lifts Beijing anti-doping laboratory suspension
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has lifted an accreditation suspension imposed on China's National Anti-Doping Laboratory.
The facility in Beijing had its accreditation suspended on April 21 due to non-conformity with the International Standard for Laboratories.
However, it can now resume all anti-doping activities with immediate effect, having successfully complied with the requirements to achieve reinstatement.
"We are confident that the laboratory has corrected its deficiencies and will now be operating to the high standards required by WADA," director general of WADA Olivier Niggli said in a statement.
The decision comes amid the continuing fallout from the McLaren report, an independent investigation commissioned by WADA to examine allegations of a state-sponsored performance-enhancing drug use among Russian athletes, casting doubt on the integrity of this month's Olympic Games.
The International Association of Athletics Federations duly imposed a blanket ban, meaning all but one Russian track and field competitors were suspended from Rio, but the International Olympic Committee opted not to follow suit for all of the country's athletes, a decision prompting widespread criticism.
