West Indies U19s slammed after 'Mankad' seals win over Zimbabwe

West Indies bore the brunt of fierce social media criticism on Tuesday after controversially securing their place in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup quarter-final with a 'Mankad' run out in the final over against Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe crashed out of the competition in contentious fashion in Chittagong, when Richard Ngarava was run out by bowler Keemo Paul while backing up at the non-striker's end to give the Windies a two-run victory.

Although Paul did not break any rules, the so-called 'Mankad' dismissal is not seen to be in the spirit of cricket.

And current and former players were quick to have their say on Twitter about the incident.

Australia head coach Darren Lehmann posted: "Unbelievable , Not out #U19CWC", with former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming tweeting: "This is not a good look. absolutely disgraceful behaviour!!"

Jos Buttler was dismissed by Sri Lanka bowler Sachithra Senanayake in the same fashion in a one-day international two years ago and the England wicketkeeper-batsman was not impressed with what he witnessed on Tuesday.

"Can't believe what I've just seen! Embarrassing!" he posted.

Buttler's England team-mate James Taylor tweeted: "That is a ridiculous way to finish a game!!! Awful sportsmanship!!"

Former South Africa batsman Alviro Petersen added: "I can't support what just happened in the #U19CWC @ICC perhaps a decision taken without thought... #sportsmanship."
