Will Power wins Dual in Detroit race two

Will Power claimed his first IndyCar Series victory in over a year after winning race two of the Dual in Detroit on Sunday.

Power took inspiration from race-one winner Sebastian Bourdais, passing his rivals in the closing stages as they were forced into pit stops at Belle Isle Park.

The Australian took the chequered flag for the first time since May 2015, finishing ahead of pole-sitter and Team Penske team-mate Simon Pagenaud.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the podium, while Bourdais had to pit with just over 10 laps remaining from the lead, eventually finishing in eighth.

"The guys did a great job in the pits," Power said. "Then obviously on the restart, I really had to capitalise if I wanted to win. It's been a long time since the number 12 has been in victory lane.

"It just gives the whole crew some confidence. I think we've all been stumbling a bit. It's been a tough start to the year, missing the first race, then with a few mishaps."

A four-car wreck on lap one forced the race into a caution, with James Hinchcliffe and Max Chilton taken out.

Series leader Pagenaud led early, while Helio Castroneves was within a good shout of victory after passing the Frenchman on lap 41, but it was 35-year-old Power who came out on top in the end.
