Suame Magazine workers cry over high import duties
Workers in Kumasi Magazine have expressed worry over the huge duties imposed on their imports
Chairman of the association, Patrick Oppong in an interview with Abusua FM’s Nana Ama Annor stated, the spare parts business in the country is no longer lucrative as it used to be.
According to Oppong, high import duties and the sharp depreciation of the local currency is a major factor affecting spare parts business in the country.
The chairman observed, “the falling cedi and high duties is making the prices of spare parts go higher than we expected.”
“This has seriously affected our business and our customers in Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali and other neighboring countries have stopped doing business with us due to the high cost of purchasing these parts.”
Patrick Oppong is therefore appealing to President Akufo Addo to fulfill his promise of scrapping import duties on spare parts.
He said business in Suame magazine is gradually collapsing due to high import duties on spare parts.
