Ghanaian actor, Kofi Adjorlolo, has lauded producers of movies shot in Twi which is often referred to as Kumawood movies.

His praise is on the basis that these producers attach seriousness to their work. According to him, although the sector has a challenge with content, producers are well organised unlike producers of glamourous movies.

“They know what they are about when they are in operation. They still use their distribution point for sales of their moving which makes them better than the glamour movie actors,” he told Flex Newspaper.

Kumawood has over the years been labelled as the burgeoning movie industry in Ghana and has been described by award-winning filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso as a great initiative despite impressions by many film critics that most Kumawood movies are substandard.

Though “Kumawood” is a registered brand of Samdackus Initiatives’award ceremony - Kumawood and Akoben Movie Awards, it has been used as an industry name for movies from Kumasi.

Well-known actors from the sector includes Kwadwo Nkansah (Liwin), Kwasi Boadi (Akrobeto), Kwaku Manu, Alexander Kofi Adu (Agya Koo), Apostle John Prah, Yaw Dabo, Rose Mensah (Kyeiwaa), Nana Ama Mcbrown, Mercy Asiedu and Benedicta Gafah.

Producers include Frank Fiifi Garbin, Jones Aboagye and Samuel Nyamekye.
