Student with grade 9 goes on hunger strike for not getting a school

The female student completed her basic education in 2016 but could not go to school due to financial constraints. She reapplied but was not placed by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) this year.

A female Junior High School graduate has embarked on a hunger strike because she was not placed by the Computer School Selection Placement System (CSSPS) after she made aggregate 9 in her final exam.

According to Accra-based Starr FM, Rachael Achia completed her basic education in 2016 and was placed at the Ghana Senior High School.

However, she could not raise the needed fees to enrol due to the demise of her father.

“When I completed school last year I lost my father and I was unable to enrol at Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua and my Mother asked me to stay at home until this year for free SHS.”

But she was not placed by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) this year.

“My forms were filled and sent to Accra for placement into Senior High School but I wasn’t placed by the Computerized placement system and my mother has asked me to go back to JHS and write the BECE again.”However, Rachael Achia believes there is no more hope for her to go back to school.“I feel all hope is lost because I cannot go back and write after getting aggregate 9.”
