Give us jobs now or face legal action - University Trained Teachers threaten

The Assembly of University Trained Teachers of Ghana (AUTTG), a group made up of unemployed and underemployed university trained teachers from the various public and private universities has called on government to as a matter of urgency get its members recruited to work as teachers in government schools.

The trained teachers has, however, threatened to take a legal action against government if it fails to provide immediate employment for its members.

The threat comes at the back of a strike action embarked on by the Assembly earlier in August, calling on government to employ them.

About 100 members demonstrated through some principal streets in Accra to force government to honour its pledge of employing them.

The members said they've have been home since 2011 and despite engagements with government, nothing concrete came out of those meetings.

Joshua Ankomah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Assembly speaking on the development said "Since September marks the beginning of the academic year, the best we can do is to wait for about a week or two…so if the academic calendar starts and we don’t hear anything then I think our patience will no longer hold on."

Joshua Ankomah added that "If you go to the ministry all they say is there is an embargo, but in the mist of this embargo those from the training colleges are being recruited so where are they getting the money to pay them?."
