According to him, ‘Abodam’ man does not like paying his dues and that means he cannot be classified as a pro-member of MUSIGA.

The Union has been on the receiving end of criticisms from some Ghanaian musicians, who believe they are just not doing enough to support the music industry.

Kwaw Kese also recently laid into the Union, describing it as “the most corrupt institution in Ghana”.

He wondered why MUSIGA would organize “a musicians’ grand ball and not invite musicians”.

However, speaking on the Starr Chat show with Bola Ray, Obour said the grand ball was a fund raising event and not necessarily a programme for musicians.

”It is not a day for musicians, the grand ball is a fundraising event so we even reach out to musicians to buy tables. The MUSIGA grand ball is managed by a board and the board gives directives.

"Every individual soul that attends grand ball, the board spends $100 on the person because the person will eat. Our food bill is GHC200 per plate. Each year we have MUSIGA pro-members there. This year pro-members such as Becca, Celestine Odonkor, Ohemaa Mercy and others were there and so they have one table,” he said.

He added that a musician like Kwaw Kese is unlikely to enjoy any benefits from MUSIGA since he does not pay his dues.

This, he said, therefore means that ‘Abodam’ cannot be regarded as a pro-member of the Union.

“If Kwaw Kese is a MUSIGA pro-member; he is not a professional member. A pro-member is a musician who pays GHC580 year to MUSIGA and Kwaw Kese is not,” Obour stated.
