The 14 teachers, according to Africafeeds.com, are just a part of a total of 79 education workers who have been fired in the southern province of the country for various offenses including fraud and absenteeism.

The provincial education officer, Florence Chikalekale is reported to have said that 41 of the sacked workers had joined the profession with fake qualifications.

There may be more dismissals in the coming days as Florence Chikalekale is quoted as saying, “We are still waiting for other disciplinary cases.”

The General Education Minister of Zambia, Dr. Dennis Wachinga has called for reforms in the educational sector, saying, “Teachers are public servants and are expected to support the Government of the day.”

This mass dismissal of teachers in the Southern African country comes at a time the dust is yet to settle on similar scandals in Ghana.

Teacher- pupil sexual relationship in Africa is on the ascendency and child rights activists are worried that if the trend is not checked, more and more children’s potentials may be jeopardized.
