The court further ordered that the suspect should be examined by any of the recognised psychiatric hospitals in the country to ascertain his mental status, after his lawyer had argued that Mr. Boadi was not in the right frame of mind when he posted the said alarmist news on social media.

It would be recalled that on September 24, social media was awash with the news that the largest and most popular mall was besieged by terrorist, holding both workers and customers hostage.

The security agencies debunked the assertion with dispatch and an investigation was instituted into the matter to figure out the source of that information.

A joint security task force was able to traced the source of that fake news to the 30-year-old teacher who resides in the Ashanti region.

He posted the false news on a WhatsApp platform called “Buy and Sell Anything and Travel Agent GH” which he is the organiser.

Boadi was invited via telephone to report to the BNI office in Kumasi, on October 5, but he failed to honour the invitation.

He was later arrested at his hideout and brought to the BNI office where he admitted to originating the said fake news and its video attachment.

When he appeared in court, counsel for the accused argued that his client was mentally unstable and that he had been sent home from school on certain occasions as a result of his condition.
