The men had actually gone to the hospital to seek cure for the effects of a herbal aphrodisiac they had taken.

However, mysteriously, the effects of the herbal medicine popularly known in the South African country as mvubwe were similar to the symptoms of the cholera epidemic it has been battling which has reportedly claimed 70 lives out of 3,000 cases recorded.

According to a BBC report, the three men had been out drinking and subsequently decided to take some “sex enhancing” herbal medicine to boost their sexual performance. However, for unknown reasons the effects of the medicine became unpleasant and they were taken to the hospital amidst frequent vomiting.

Confirming the report, the region’s top government official, Chanda Kasolo is reported by the BBC as having said “After tests were carried out, the combination of the sex enhancers, the beer and food essentially gave a positive result for food poisoning which was suspected to be cholera-related.

“But after further tests and asking them questions, they disclosed that they had taken traditional sex enhancers,” the official said adding that the three men are responding to treatment at the cholera center.
