He argued at the time that he had a consensual sex with the accuser, and the court was convinced and let him off the hook.

His accuser, Kuzwayo then fled abroad and died subsequently.

However, Cyril Ramaphosa who is expected to take the leadership role of the African National Congress (ANC) when Jacob Zuma retires on December 16, is now raising misgivings about the High Court’s ruling almost 11 years after that ruling.

Africafeeds.com reported the vice president as having said that he “would believe” the late Fezekile Kuzwayo, and commended her for the bold step taken by resorting to the court for redress.

Meanwhile, President Zuma’s office has issued a statement in response to the claim by Cyril Ramaphosa, saying “The rape allegations against President Zuma were properly considered by a judge of the High Court. Having evaluated the totality of the evidence, the court acquitted the president of the rape charges.”

Mr. Zuma emphasised in the statement that, “The Presidency affirms the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the primacy of the courts as the final arbiters in disputes in society.”
