Over the course of the study, a total of 236 of the participants died. The study found that those who eat more fries had a higher mortality rate.

The data which was analysed by Dr Nicola Veronese, who is the lead researcher, and his team found that "participants who consumed fried potatoes 2–3 times per week were at an increased risk of mortality."

The study thus concluded that "the frequent consumption of fried potatoes appears to be associated with an increased mortality risk. Additional studies in larger sample sizes should be performed to confirm if overall potato consumption is associated with higher mortality risk."

The study also found that those who consumedpotatoes that were not fried did not stand the same risk as those who did.
