Is this suppose to be morning coat or a graduation gown?

Ghana's style icon graced a wedding in this apparel which gets us thinking what exactly she wanted to achieve with this look

So, the page of the ‘slay queen’ has these nice images of her in an apparel which is quite difficult to figure out what exactly she wanted to pull with her look. The apparel looks like a choir robe, or let me say morning coat, better still a graduation gown.

After a critical observation of the apparel, I realize she was only trying to pull off the Chinese cultural style. Primarily because this is not the first time she has tried pulling of such a look. The 2016 4syte music awards had her in what looked very Asian.

What Selly wore was to a wedding, so she definitely couldn’t have sent a choir robe there or a graduation gown. Did her look work for her? A big “NO”. I respect the fact that Selly is very adventurous with her look. She does not conform to trends but goes out of the norm to create style. But this look gave her out completely, it was a total failure.

1. Style

Cheongsam is an ancient traditional outfit that has lots of richness and a signature appeal, mostly in floral or silky material.

That was exactly what the style gem tried pulling. The style of the dress is very primitive, so she should have either used all the elements of the typical Chinese Cheongsam comes with or modernized it. Perhaps a to knee level with a wider overlay to make room for a little cleavage. That would have defined the dress.

2. Fabric

The material should have been of a floral fabric. That would have silenced fashion observers like myself. She used a plain fabric with only Kente detailing at the edges of the overlays. And with cheongsam, if you want to do plain fabrics then the detailing should be more. Her fabric was totally parallel to the Asian cheongsam fashion.

3. Color choice

I always say this, if you want to go to a wedding ceremony in black, then go in for a little black dress. Selly looks too much and inappropriate for a wedding. Pairing the black and kente for the wedding is what would make you think it is a graduation garment or a choir robe. It was a total thumbs-down for me. She could have gone in for something more brighter.

Enough fashion dissection, we give her props for her flawless make up, omg, that was totally breathtaking. Her hair was a hundred and one perfect for the look. We hail her when she wows us, I guess a little bash on her bad style day shouldn’t be a problem.

My earnest advice is that Selly should make her bedroom times better with this apparel because it is the most beautiful morning coat ever.
