The video tells the story of Ugandan woman aged 37 who has given birth to 38 children. Mariam Nabatanzi Babirye was only 12 years old when she was married off to a polygamous and abusive man who was 22 years older than her. She gave birth to her first set of twins in 1994 when at age 14. Two years later, she gave birth to triplets and a year and seven months after that added a set of quadruplets.
Speaking about the achievement, George Salia, the Wochit creator and a member of the Pulse Ghana social media team, said although he expected the video to do well, he was completely blown away by the response.
“When I first saw the story, I thought it was extraordinary and something that would appeal to audiences. But we have made many videos here that we expected will get even half the reach that this video has got and they didn’t so the success of this video was completely unexpected.”Wochit is a platform used by the many top newsrooms across the globe to make social media videos.
