Minority accuses government of covering up BOST MD

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) is covering up the government and its appointee at the Bulk Oil Storage Transportation (BOST) over the sale of contaminated fuel.

This is an allegation made by the Minority in Parliament.

“We are being told that the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI is acting in a manner that we don’t only smell but we can sense a cover-up in respect of the matter of the selling of the contaminated oil by BOST which matter borders on fraud, corruption and abuse of office.”

He added that the BNI’s action “can only be sowing the seeds of corruption and therefore preventing sunshine on a matter that is of public interest.”

He asked that the security agency should make public the full details of its investigations.

A joint investigation conducted by the BNI and National Security cleared Alfred Obeng of any wrongdoing.

The investigation also showed that Obeng has no direct relationship with the firm he sold the ‘dirty fuel’ to; Movenpiina.

Obeng came under fire after it was revealed that he decided to sell five million litres of contaminated fuel to Movenpiina.

Many stakeholders called for the MD to resign for a full investigation to be conducted.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) showed that the firm that purchased the fuel was not licensed.

The Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko subsequently formed an eight-member investigative committee to look into the transaction with Movenpiina.

Many expected the Minister to suspend the investigation of the committee However, the Ministry said the committee will still go ahead to probe the circumstances surrounding the deal.

At a press conference in Accra held on Tuesday, the Ministry said the committee will not probe allegations that have been responded to already by the BNI and National Security.

The Ministry has also denied allegations that it is covering up the actions of the BOST Managing Director. The Minister promised to ensure that the matter is brought to a logical conclusion.
