Handling Prostitution Government should introduce sex tourism – Maurice Ampaw

Sex tourism, in which the main goal of a trip is to engage in sexual activity, often with prostitutes, is a booming global industry.

Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, is urging the Akufo-Addo led administration to consider introducing sex tourism, saying it will help curb the number of school children who have joined the profession.

Sex tourism, in which the main goal of a trip is to engage in sexual activity, often with prostitutes, is a booming global industry.

Speaking on Accra-based Hot FM, following an announcement by the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tamale, Musah Superior, to end prostitution in his Municipality, Ampaw noted that it was impossible to end the world's oldest profession.

According to him, some young gills went into prostitution because of unavailability of jobs, adding that those that are fit to work should be given jobs while the teenagers should be sent back to school.

He said: "We must start going after them (prostitutes) and council them. We could provide jobs for those who are fit to work and send the teenagers involved to school to keep them busy because when they get busy with other things, these things could stop but no one can abolish prostitution, the oldest profession because some may do it behind closed doors.

“What could help is to introduce sex tourism where some selected prostitutes are trained to entertain tourists but this should be something exclusive which could be introduced in the law but it should not be made attractive for others to join."
