Pneumococcal meningitis: Govt provides GH¢150K to fight outbreak

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe made this known while interacting with health directors in the Brong Ahafo region.

 

Government has provided an additional GH¢150,000 to the Brong Ahafo Region to help fight the outbreak of meningitis in the area.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe who made this known while interacting with health directors said government will put in more effort to control the outbreak soon.

The intervention package includes logistics and a review of all health insurance claims for accelerated payments, Accra-based TV3 has reported.

The Region which has already benefitted from GH¢30,000 is currently on alert to prevent a further spread of the disease in Techiman and Wenchi.

With over 11 dead so far, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe is in the region to assess the situation and ensure the outbreak is well managed.

The Region has since the outbreak in December, 2015 recorded 55 cases across five districts namely Tain, Techiman North, Techiman South, Wenchi and Kintampo.
