The decision was taken by the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly chaired by the presiding member of the Assembly, Richard Fiadomor.

The Tema West MP last week charged residents to stop the Tema Metropolitan Assembly task force from demolishing their properties.

The TMA Works Engineer, Maxwell Adu Boateng who was supervising the demolition exercise said the structures were creating a nuisance on the edges of the road.

But the MP, Carlos Ahenkorah who got alerted of the exercise went to the scene and urged residents to stop the task force from destroying their properties.

Punishment insignificant

Speaking on the development in the metropolis, Mr George Kyei Baffour said the action would have a minimal effect on the activities of the MP.

In an interview on Accra-based Class FM, he said "As it is, I believe that the suspension of the Honourable Member would have very insignificant effect ton him. Because he will function as a Member of Parliament, perform his normal duties as he such, he controls his own common fund that is within the approval of the assembly and those activities will continue to be carried out so the effect of it will not be felt. So I thought that maybe the assembly would have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to compel the Honourable Member to appear before the committee for everybody to hear exactly what happened, his side of the story for very prudent judgment to be made.

"Because as it is it like the man did not respond to an invitation by a committee of the assembly and for that matter he has been suspended for six months. The effect s quite insignificant."
