Obiri Boahen advises NDC to honour Rawlings and leave Nkrumah debate to CPP

According to him, issues about Kwame Nkrumah and whether he is being sidelined or not should basically be the preserve of the Convention Peoples Party.

President Nana Akufo-Addo over the weekend proposed legislation to Parliament to designate 4th August as Founders Day and 21st September as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.

If passed by Parliament, both days will be observed as public holidays, a statement signed by the Director of Communications at the presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin said.

But many who are against the move believe that it is a deliberate ploy to undermine the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

An NDC Member of Parliament for Zabzugu, Alhassan Umar speaking on the development said Nana Addo wants his family members to be remembered in the history of Ghana.

But speaking in a radio discussion, Obiri Boahen said he does not get the hullabaloo being created around the subject matter, considering others who played significant roles towards Ghana’s independence cannot be ignored.

“This is something that we should not even be fighting over, he said. “Nobody is denying the fact that in Ghana’s history Nkrumah was the first among them. "

He further wondered why members of the NDC are adding their voice to the matter when it has nothing to do with them but Nkrumahists.

“…This is not about NDC, it is about Ghanaians.”

Obiri Boahen believes that the NDC must pay attention to their internal issues and solve them instead of meddling into affairs of other parties.
