The president said this when he appeared before Parliament to deliver his second state of the nation address since he was sworn into office on January 7, 2017.
During his address, the president acknowledged all dignitaries present in the chamber.
When Nana Akufo-Addo mentioned the name of former President Jerry John Rawlings, the legislators on the minority side did not cheer loudly.
Meanwhile, when the Nana Addo mentioned the wife of the former President Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, who’s the leader of the National Democratic Party [NDP], some minority members were heard hooting at her.
However, when the President mentioned ex-president Mahama, the Minority cheered on their feet, showing their love for the immediate past president.
This appeared to have surprised the President. He said that “Mr Speaker that’s the way of the world; the Founder of the party is no longer recognized by the members of the party.”
Nana Akufo-Addo’s comment angered the minority members who complained for several minutes before remaining calm for the President to continue his speech.
