Rebuild railway sector in 2 years or resign - Chief tells Minister

The chief disclosed this when the president, Nana Akufo-Addo toured the defunct Ghana Railway Company facility in Esikado as part of his three-day working visit to the Region.

The Railway Development Minister, Joe Ghartey has been asked by the Paramount Chief of Esikado Traditional Area to revamp the railway sector within two years or be prepared to resign.

"I am his elder brother and I know him so well if he is politicizing the railway sector it will come to light [but] I will give him two years in order to assess him after which if I don’t see trains going to and fro, I will tell him, Joe I am extremely disappointed you failed to work,” the chief, Nana Kobina Nketia V said.

Ghana’s railway sector has since its operations in 1898, remained undeveloped.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 campaign promised to rail the country to open up the major cities for easy movement of goods and human resource.

President Akufo-Addo during the tour said that he will not relent on that promise.
