Bawumia's analysis was 'raw propaganda' - Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has stated that the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s assessment of the economy was “pure propaganda.”

He argued that Dr. Bawumia failed to produce accurate facts and figures to back his claims in his submission.

“There is also this element of just raw propaganda. He was not talking about facts, he was not doing any empirical analysis; he was engaged in raw propaganda, very raw propaganda,” Kwesi Pratt said on Radio Gold.

Earlier this week, the former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Deputy Governor addressed journalists on the government’s 2016 budget statement and its record in the last seven years.

He accused the government of mismanaging the economy and engaging in unreasonable expenditure and also questioned the cost of the resurfacing of the Kumasi Airport runway and the construction of a new airport at Ho in the Votla Region.

In response, Kwesi Pratt said: “Bawumia talked about unreasonable government expenditure and to illustrate that he said the resurfacing of the airport in Kumasi cost 25million dollars whereas the building of an entire airport at Ho cost only 20 million and then he poses a question; was the runway paved with gold?”

“My goodness, and if you are looking for propaganda, where else can you find it beyond these statements?” he queried.

Kwesi Pratt was of the view that in order for Dr. Bawumia to have done a proper analysis, he should have considered some factors including, the length of the runway being resurfaces and the extent of damage which is being repaired.”

“…but to simply say that the resurfacing of some runway cost more than the building of an airport is to mislead and to engage in propaganda…this is just pure propaganda and I want anybody to challenge me on this.”

He stressed that “every airport does not have one cost and every runway whether resurfacing or construction does not have one cost…but Bawumia did not address that issue and I am not too happy about what he did.”
