Basketball promoter Yaw Sakyi Afari pips Kwesi Nyantakyi to win award
Yaw Sakyi Afari's work in promoting basketball in Ghana has been given big recognition, after he beat off competition from Kwesi Nyantakyi the President of the GFA and Tony Baffoe to EMY Awards.

He beat off competition from Kwesi Nyantakyi, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Tony Baffoe, the Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, who was recently honoured as the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Personalty of the year 2017.
Yaw Sakyi Afari received the award for his contribution in making basketball big in Ghana, for instance he is the brain behind the Sprite ball, which is a basketball competition in the country.

"As we thrive to pursue excellence, the next agenda for us at Rite Sports is to see to the construction of a huge indoor basketball facility," Afari said.
"The construction of the arena will help .with the creation of several basketball leagues in the country which is in line with our ultimate goal of making the game ubiquitous.
"The modern facility will help to rejuvenate the national team and in turn help to position the country to host international matches and participate fully in the qualifiers for the African Championships.
"In the next couple of month, we will unveil a massive football programme targeted at the tertiary level in Ghana.

"We intend to cover every grass as far as sports is concerned in this country."
