All the times Asamoah Gyan saved Ghana from disgrace this year

The Black Stars skipper aside his contribution on the field of play has made the headlines twice this year for the right reason outside the field of play

These are the two instances Asamoah Gyan came to Ghana’s rescue off the field of play this year.

Ghana double header against Mexico and USA

The Black Stars faced off with Mexico and the USA in the USA in late June and early July. Ghana after losing 0-1 against Mexico had to travel to Houston to take on the USA. There were issues with the travelling arrangement for the team from Connecticut to Houston, so they had to go in batches.

But two players were supposed to have been left behind and Gyan stepped in to rescue the situation by using his credit card to pay for their airfares.

Congo vs Ghana

The Black Stars after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, travelled to Brazzaville in the reverse fixture to maul the Red Devils by 5-1.

The team had been promised a chartered flight by government for their return trip from Brazzaville to Accra, but after the game, the promise wasn’t fulfilled.

The Black Stars were told to come by commercial plane, which means, they would have returned to Accra 11pm on Wednesday, after they had played the game on Tuesday.

The implication was that most of the players would have missed the deadline for them to report to their various clubs abroad.

Asamoah Gyan stepped in and hired a chartered plane which reportedly cost him $62,000 to fly the team to Accra.
