And he has now been backed to succeed at his new club by ex-Ghana international, Yaw Preko. The former Hearts of Oak striker played in the Turkish league between 1997 and 2004, and he believes Gyan has what it takes to succeed.

"Turkey is a place where people worship football hence it's a blessing for every footballer to play in that country," Preko said in an interview with Happy FM.

"It's a country where black players are cherished, and I can say on authority that the six years I spent there were the best period during my football career but the only challenge is with their journalist because just like Ghana, they criticize a lot."

Preko also admonished the Black Stars captain to follow in the footsteps of his compatriots who excelled in the Super Lig.
