Nigeria Football Association president believes Victor Moses deserves nomination

The Nigerian Football Federation President believes Victor Moses deserves to nominated for the 2017 African Footballer of the Year award

The Nigeria Football Federation president, Amojou Pinnick has stated that Nigeria and Chelsea wide man Victor Moses deserves to be nominated for the prize of 2017 CAF Footballer of the Year.

Victor Moses was played a key role to Chelsea annexing the 2016/2017 English Premier League and also aided Nigeria to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In Speaking to Citi FM at the Movenpick Hotel after the final nominees for the award were announced, Amajou Pinnick did believe the afore mentioned reasons should qualify Victor Moses for the award.

“I’m not happy because I feel that Moses should be part of the last three. The only reason why Mahrez won the award last year was because of what he did with Leicester. And Moses helped Chelsea to win the league; played in the FA Cup final; and helped Nigeria qualify for the World Cup.”

The NFF boss also questioned the criteria in choosing the best African player in a calendar year

“So I wonder why. I’m surprised. Maybe we should look at other criteria either than coaches who already have their mindset about who they want to vote for.”

Amajou Pinnick singled out Pierre Emerick Aubameyang as the player who does not deserve to be part of the three man shortlist

“Tell me what Pierre Emerick Aubameyang did last year to deserve a place ahead of Moses. Aubameyang should not be on that list. He’s struggling with Dortmund.”

“I am going to send a proposal to CAF for a new idea of selecting the players because certainly I’m not happy”.

The awards will be held on 4th January,2018 in Accra.

Nwankwo Kanu is the last Nigerian to win the award in 1999 but ever since the likes Augestine Jay Jay Okocha, Mikel Obi have made it to the top 3 with the last of the lot being Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama in 2014.
