The Black Starlets survived a scare from Colombia as they defeated the South Americans 0-1 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in India on Friday in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
There was little in terms of possession and attacking play to separate the two side- The game was an end to end action from the blast of the referee’s first whistle to the last one.
The first opportunity fell the way of Colombia when Leandro Campaz beat two Ghanaian defenders, yet Ibrahim Danladi did so well to block the ball.
Saddick Ibrahim was the first to be put through on the Ghanaian side, but his shot went over the wood work. Just after some few minutes Toku’s pass found Saddick Ibrahim, yet the latter’s goal was ruled off side.
The Black Starlets finally got the break through when Toku’s ball found Eric and the skipper’s inswing was perfectly slotted home by Saddick Ibrahim in the 38 minute.
After the interval it was Ghana who got the first opportunity of the half, but Eric Ayiah was denied by the Colombian goalie.
Deiber Caicedo who came on in the second half had the best chance for the Colombians, but his shot missed the goal post by few inches with only Danladi to beat.
