West Ham players solidly behind under fire Slaven Bilic – Andre Ayew

Slaven Bilic has been under huge pressure following West Ham's poor start to the season.

The Ghana international was in inspirational form as the Hammers recorded a huge victory over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

Ayew scored a quick-fire brace to draw West Ham level after Spurs had raced into a two-goal lead in the first half, before Angelo Ogbonna completed the turnaround for the Hammers.

Despite the win, West Ham still lie 16th on the Premier League log, just a point above the relegation places.

As the result, manager Salven Bilic has been under increasing pressure following the club’s poor start to the season, with reports suggesting he could even be axed soon.

However, Ayew has backed the Croatian coach to stay on, insisting he and his West Ham team-mates are behind their manger.

“We showed a lot of determination in the second half. It was a very good win, considering what we’ve been going through in the Premier League,” the 27-year-old told Sky Sports following Wednesday’s Caraboa Cup win over Spurs. “"It’s not been easy, it’s been a tough time, but we have a lot of quality players and we need to stick together and keep fighting as a team and we’ll get out of this situation.“When you’re in a Club like West Ham and the results are difficult, the manager is under pressure, and the players are too, but we just need to keep working hard. The manager knows the players are behind him and will give everything, not just for him but for themselves too, because we have to wear the shirt with pride.

There is a fighting spirit and we need to do it week-in, week-out. “This is a good win for confidence. It’s a derby with Tottenham at Wembley and we were losing 2-0 at half-time, so there are a lot of things from this which smell good, but in football we cannot get carried away. We need to work even harder on Saturday if we want to get something.”

Ayew has now been involved in 10 goals and five assists for West Ham since August 2016.
