Ex-Everton coach pays tribute to Abubakari Yakubu

The erstwhile Everton coach has paid a glowing tribute to his former player Yakubu Abukari after he passed away.

Yakubu died at the Tema Government Hospital after he was placed on life-support following an illness earlier this week, the Ghanaian FA have announced.

The football world has been saddened by his death and Ronald Koeman who coached the former Ghana international for a three year period during his time with Ajax has mourned the death of his former player.

Koeman, who left Everton last Monday, tweeted: "Rest in peace Abubakari Yakubu."

Yakubu, won two Eredivisie titles with Koeman before leaving on a season-long loan to Vitesse in 2004.

Yakubu Abubakari was part of the Black Stars team that qualified the nation for their maiden FIFA World Cup in Germany, but he failed to make the list for the finals.
