Newcastle United raced into a 2-0 lead before recess courtesy of goals from Alexander Mitrovic and Matt Richie, before the Bundesliga side reduced the deficit.

But Christian Atsu restored Newcastle’s two goal margin lead in the 69th minute with his trademark strike.

The 25-year-old winger joined the St. James’ outfit last season and contributed immensely in helping the team win the English Championship and secure promotion back to the Premier League.

He will be hoping to get much playing time this season as they play in the topflight.
