These Black Stars players won't be too excited

Pulse Sports has put together a list of players who might fall victims with Kwesi Appiah to the helm of the Black Stars

Appiah’s appointment might bring a lot of joy to Black Stars players like Majeed Waris for instance, who was handed his Black Stars debut by Kwesi Appiah, as well as some of the best performing Ghanaian players abroad at the moment like Raphael Dwamena who failed to make the cut for the final squad for AFCON 2017.

The new gaffer is likely to shut the door to players who have been earning consistent call-ups to the Black Stars, yet have failed to make a mark in the team.

Another crop of players who might suffer with the return of Kwesi Appiah are the ones who have disciplinary issues.

Pulse Sports has put together a list of players who might fall victims with Kwesi Appiah as the new man in charge of the Black Stars.

Edwin Gyimah

The former Orlando Pirates defender has been one of the players who have been handed several call-ups, but hasn’t made any significant impact in the team.

Despite being consistently called up, Gyimah has made 8 appearances for the Black Stars and was not selected for any of the games in the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Most Ghanaians believe a new person should be given an opportunity instead of Edwin Gyimah under Kwesi Appiah.

Bernard Tekpetey

Avram Grant came under intense criticisms when he gave Thomas Tekpetey a call-up into the Black Stars at a time he had played about three games for the first team for Bundesliga giants Schalke.

The erstwhile Ghana manager handed Tekpetey his debut Black Stars game in Ghana’s final group game against Egypt.

However, the youngster is still struggling to gain playing time at Schalke 04, despite the exposure he was given during the 2017 AFCON in Sudan.

He is likely going to be one of the players Kwesi Appiah might consider replacing under his stewardship.

Ebenezer Assifuah

The 2013 FIFA U-20 Golden boot winner is struggling to live up to the billing. It appears his career is reversing after he made a move from Scion to Le Havre, a lower division side in France.

Assifuah was one of the youngsters who made the cut for Avram Grant’s final 23-man squad for the 2017 AFCON, but he couldn’t justify why he was selected as he failed to make any impact in the team.

He was chosen ahead of Raphael Dwamena who scored 18 goals in 20 league games for Austria Lustenau before joining his current side FC Zurich, so at the moment Kwesi Appiah would decide to consider other options in attack.

Razak Braimah

The Cordoba FC goalie is yet to win the hearts of Ghanaians as the number one shot-stopper of the Black Stars.

He might might lose his number one spot as the goalkeeper of the Black Stars. He sometimes looks jittery in post and makes elementary mistakes, so Kwesi Appiah would be looking for a tried and tested goalkeeper who is likely to command his goal area.

Moreover, he is battling with consistent playing time at club level.

Sulley Muntari, Kevin Prince Boateng and Michael Essien

The trio were one of the reasons why Kwesi Appiah was criticised of losing his dressing room in Brazil 2014 World.

Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari were thrown out of the camp of the Black Stars for indecent behaviour, while Michael Essien was also punished.

Boateng is the most in form Ghanaian player abroad having scored eight goals for Las Palmas in the La Liga, but he would be the last person Appiah would consider recalling back to the Black Stars.

Essien and Muntari have also started picking up the pieces of their careers - Muntari playing for Pescara, a bottom club in the Serie A, while Essien is plying his trade in the Indonesian topflight league with Persib Badung.

Yet the duo have not hit the form that would make them win the hearts of Ghanaians to push Appiah and the FA into considering them for a return to the Black Stars fold.
