Watch how Ghana defeated Gambia on Saturday

Black Stars B managed to secure a 1-0 victory over the Gambia in the elimination stage of the West African Football Union Cup (WAFU) on Saturday at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The hero of the game was Hearts of Oak penalty expert Vincent Atingah, who stepped forward to score from the spot kick in the 98 minute of the game.

The Gambia put up a very strong defensive line and were also sold in midfield, as they forced their Ghanaian counterparts to labour in vein in the first 45 minutes.

Black Stars B’ in the second half upped their game and succeeded in creating some decent chances- skipper Isaac Twum’s freekick hit the crossbar and Thomas Abbey and Stephen Sarfo who came on as a second half substitute had opportunities to put Ghana into the lead, yet the fluffed them.

The referee added more time due to delaying tactics on the part of the Gambia and as Ghana pressed harder for the winner, a ball floated into the 18-yard box of the visitors seemingly resulted in a handball incident and the knight of the whistle awarded a penalty in favour of Ghana.

There was confusion after the penalty call as the Gambian players who disagreed with the decision of the centre referee pushed him around and compelled him to flash his yellow card on one of the players

Vincent Atingah stepped forward and slotted the ball home perfectly to give Black Stars B’ the much needed victory with eight minutes into injury time.
