Sarpong was said to have made that statement after Dwarfs were beaten 1-0 by New Edubiase on match day two, that he would step down if his players do not show commitment.

The defeat to Edubiase meant Dwarfs had zero point after two matches and with Hearts of Oak being their next guest, there were predictions that the former Liberty Professionals coach would be the next casualty.
However, Sarpong after securing his first point in the league against Hearts on Sunday, told Pulse.com.gh he was taken out of context because he actually said he will "advice" himself and not to "quit".
“I want to correct an impression; I never said that I will quit Dwarfs. What I said was that if the players are not committed then I will advice myself. I never used the word quit. I will advice myself perhaps by sleeping in the house or perhaps by giving them suspension, I mean there are many ways of killing a cat.

“But journalists picked it out of context and tried to make a whole lot of noise about it. If you hear anything about a coach, call the coach to clarify it before publishing it.
"For me we are colleagues in the job is like policemen and the drivers, they are always colleagues. The media and the coaches are one but whereby the coaches are lambasted, the next time you call the coach for an interview he will decline."
"Some are even saying Bashir (Hayford) is "too known" and all that. It's not proper, is not proper. We are not saying they should not criticize us but it should be constructive to correct and put the coaches and players on their toes."
He further intimated that the reports nearly destabilized his team ahead of their goalless draw game against Hearts of Oak but for the intervention of the club's Board chairman and former GFA capo, Nana Sam Brew Butler.
"When it happened like that it demoralized the players. When they saw it they said is the coach leaving us? Is our father leaving us? You see the kind of problem you brought into the team. I had to talk to them , Nana Butler had to come and talk to them about the fact that it wasn't true. So that is the result you saw".

Coach Sarpong also believes that a point from the Hearts game is a good way to turn results around.
"Well I think we have moved a step from our abysmal performance in the two games. I believe that with this show against Hearts of Oak which is a big team, the motivation is there for us to carry on and then perhaps improve our standing on the league log".
"The way forward is that, for me I know in football when you lose two matches and you draw then there is improvement in your performance. The league has a long way to go, is not a two game affair. Now we have more matches to play, I hope and pray that if they can continue to sustain this level of play we will improve in the next three or four matches.”
